Years of sitting in front of a computer finally led to extreme lower back pain. I was diagnosed with hairline fractures in my lower back and that I had the early onset of osteoporosis. For two years I had x-rays done, was given pain medication and to do mild exercises in order to try and relieve the pain.
The treatment prescribed did not work. The anti-inflammatory medication did not agree with me and the physiotherapy only provided short term relief. I was still in pain and needed another alternative and more effective form of treatment.
I did my research and came across information about chiropractic. I made an appointment with a registered chiropractor, Dr Warrick Botha. He asked a series of questions and he believed I may have pinched nerves in my lower back. This is when he performed spinal manipulation treatment. I felt immediate pain relief after the first session. I had two more sessions and the pain in my back was completely gone.
The chiropractor, Dr Botha, says that I was suffering from lower back pain and an associated tingling sensation down my thighs. In addition, I also had neck pain that came with associated numbness in my hands. He said that his examination revealed that I had misaligned spinal vertebrae in my lower back and neck as well as muscle spasms in the areas around.
The treatment he gave me involved electrotherapy, heat , massage and spinal adjustments. The electrotherapy was for pain relief while the heat and massage sessions were for relaxing tight muscle spasms. The spinal adjustments realigned the spinal vertebrae and reduce the pressure on my nerves.
Dr Botha also gave me exercises for my neck and lower back and these have given me more mobility and contributed towards pain relief. This is why I recommend that people visit Dr Botha for relief from neck, back, hip and shoulder pain.
Dr Botha was very impressed by my progress and the fact that the pain was alleviated after just three sessions with him. I have had one follow up visit with him in order to make sure that all was going well. The exercises he gave me to do, ensure that the problems do not start again.
Chiropractic believes in the body’s ability to heal itself. It focuses on the way the body’s skeleton, muscles and nerves all function together and treatment does not involve surgery or medication. When the spinal vertebrae are out of alignment, there may be tension and pain in the back, shoulders or neck. This is when the chiropractor puts the vertebrae back in alignment through spinal manipulation, which then removes pressure on the nerves and relieves the pain. A chiropractor will use a holistic approach when treating patients in order for them to focus on the cause of the pain and not just the symptoms. This ensures that treatment will be fully effective in the long run.
